Swahili is a bantu language that is spoken throughout East and South East Africa – Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Swahili is spoken by over 140 million people and is one of the official languages of the African Union. Although Swahili is primarily a Bantu language, there are strong influences of Arabic, German, Portuguese, English, Hindi and French in the vocabulary.
Orrasis and Julius Muange, a teacher of Spoken Swahili for over 25 years, collaborated to create these Swahili courses and deliver them on Udemy’s platform. The courses are taught in English through video presentations along with downloadable PDFs which will contain vocabulary and grammar construction notes. Regular quizzes during the course enable you to measure your understanding of the course material. A common question and answer section for each course will enable you to interact with Julius and get answers to your questions. A common knowledge base allows you to view the questions of other students along with their answers. These courses are designed to teach you how to speak Swahili with correct grammar, pronunciation, with a goal of teaching students to speak Swahili like a native.

Julius Muange has been teaching Swahili as a spoken language for over 25 years. During this time, he has taught in schools, universities and several organizations such as US Peace Corps, Divine World Missionaries, British Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) as well as Lewis Clark College in the USA. Over time, he has developed a very functional Spoken Swahili course which is very popular in the East African region.
Julius currently teaches Spoken Swahili to over 40 students on a one-to-one basis, as well as small groups in Nairobi, Kenya. These students are mostly from the expat community in Nairobi, seeking to learn Spoken Swahili to conduct business and converse with the locals in Kenya. Most have continued taking these courses developed by Julius over a period of two years to obtain full proficiency in speaking Swahili like a native speaker.
Julius is also available to take personal and group lessons throughout the Nairobi area. Learn more here.
